Brandon Nimmo had three hits and three RBIs to lift the host New York Mets to a doubleheader sweep over the Philadelphia Phillies with a 4-0 win in the nightcap Tuesday.
The Mets won the opener 4-3 in eight innings and swept the Phillies for the first time in a doubleheader since September 2011.
Mets starter Marcus Stroman was dominant in six innings as he gave up four hits and no runs. Stroman (2-0) struck out three and walked none. On Sunday, Stroman threw nine pitches before the Mets-Florida Marlins game was postponed.
Phillies starter Aaron Nola tossed five innings and allowed seven hits and three runs in five innings. Nola (0-1) struck out seven and walked one.
Stroman retired the first nine batters before allowing a leadoff single to Matt Joyce in the fourth inning.
Nola only gave up two hits -- a single by Nimmo and a double by Francisco Lindor -- through the first three. In the fourth, the Mets placed runners on first and second with one out. Jonathan Villar followed with an RBI double for a 1-0 Mets lead.
Nimmo added a two-run single with the bases loaded and two outs for a 3-0 advantage.
J.T. Realmuto opened the fifth with a single to right. Alec Bohm flied out and Didi Gregorius popped up. Jean Segura then singled up the middle to place runners at first and second. Adam Haseley flied out to left to end the threat.
Nimmo's third hit came in the seventh against Spencer Howard, a run-scoring single to center for a 4-0 advantage. Nimmo's average increased to .435 with the 3-for-4 performance.
In the seventh, the Mets brought in Jeurys Familia to replace Stroman and on the first pitch induced a soft groundout from Bryce Harper. Realmuto grounded out to third and fell to 1-for-17 in his career against Familia. Alec Bohm singled to right and Gregorius followed with a single to extend his hitting streak to 11 games this season. Segura grounded out to third to end the game.
