Qlicksmart launched a digital platform to provide safe medical tools to prevent injuries caused by sharps to medical personnel.
Brisbane, Australia (Merxwire) -УЃтЌХ StatistaУЃтЌтЙ pointed out that the size of the operating room equipment market in the United States will reach 595.6 million US dollars in 2021, 30% increase from 2014, indicating that the demand for operating room equipment has increased year by year.
Various medical equipment is a tool for treating patients, but 18,000 nurses and medical staff are injured by sharps every year, many of which occur in the operating room. Injury to sharps can cause health care workers to contract infectious diseases and increase the great occupational risks of medical workers, such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.
Using traditional methods to remove scalpel blades is unsafe and leads to an increase in injuries to sharps in the operating room. Founded by two Australian doctors, Qlicksmart launched a digital platform to improve the safety of using sharps and provide suitable tools and recommendations for each medical stage, so that the hospital can reduce the risk of sharps injuries.
Dr. Michael Sinnott, co-founder and emergency physician of Qlicksmart, sees digital platforms as a way to make hospitals more accessible to safety policies. In addition to the operating room, it also provides safe medical equipment for other medical units such as clinics, pharmacies and laboratories to reduce the risks caused by sharps.
Safely designed equipment has been proven to reduce sharp injuries, but in the past it was believed that the time and resources required to evaluate products or train personnel may hinder improvements in safety. Qlicksmart provides available tools including how to evaluate weapon safety equipment, interactive training applications for product training, sharps safety education resources, and how to evaluate the success of facility implementation plans to facilitate medical staff to improve the operating environment and reduce injuries caused by medical equipment .
We wanted to provide a platform where hospitals from the city or remote areas can access the quality training and evaluation tools they need to make the best decisions for their staff.УЂтЌТQlicksmart collaborated with Monash UniversityУЂтЌтЂs Design Health Collab for the development of the Interactive Training App, which is a key aspect of the Digital Platform.Professor Daphne Flynn, Director of Monash Health Collab, and Eden Potter, Senior Research Officer, provided their insights on how the project will support healthcare workers.
УЂтЌХWith the training and test being app-based, health care workers can be educated on how to correctly use BladeCASSETTE [Qlicksmart device] in their own time, place, and pace. In these current times with the COVID-19 pandemic, thereУЂтЌтЂs no need for groups of people to gather together for training.УЂтЌТ
Federal funding was provided for the development of the Interactive Training App through the Innovations Connections Grant facilitated by the Ministry for Industry, Science and Technology.
The launch event for the Qlicksmart Digital Platform will be conducted at the Cohort Innovation Space at Gold Coast on Friday 3rd ofУТ July at 12:30pm. Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews is confirmed to speak. The event will be livestreamed on QlicksmartУЂтЌтЂs facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/qlicksmartandbesafe.
